Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary ceasefire in the war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin has said the ceasefire will run from the morning of 8 May until the 11 May - which coincides with victory celebrations to mark the end of World War Two.
In a statement it said Putin declared the ceasefire "based on humanitarian considerations"
While Ukraine has yet to respond, Russia threatened "an adequate and effective response" if Kyiv violates the proposed ceasefire.
The Russian Armed Forces will cease hostilities on humanitarian grounds from 12:00 on May 8 (9:00 p.m. GMT on May 7) to 12:00 a.m. on May 11 (9:00 p.m. GMT on May 10), the Kremlin press service reported, citing President Vladimir Putin's decision.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict for three days in honor of the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. The truce will last from May 8 to May 10th, the Kremlin has said.

Im Falle von Verletzungen der Waffenruhe durch die ukrainische Seite werden die Streitkräfte der Russischen Föderation angemessen und wirksam reagieren.
Die russische Seite erklärt erneut ihre Bereitschaft zu Friedensgesprächen ohne Vorbedingungen, die auf die Beseitigung der Ursachen der ukrainischen Krise abzielen, sowie zur konstruktiven Zusammenarbeit mit internationalen Partnern.

Durante este período, se detienen todas las hostilidades.
Rusia considera que la parte ucraniana debería seguir este ejemplo.
En caso de violación de la tregua por la parte ucraniana, las FFAA de Rusia darán una respuesta adecuada y eficaz.
La parte rusa vuelve a reiterar su disposición a entablar conversaciones de paz sin condiciones previas encaminadas a eliminar las causas profundas de la crisis ucraniana y a cooperar constructivamente con los socios internacionales", indica el comunicado del Kremlin.
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, when asked whether Russia would observe the May ceasefire proposed by Vladimir Putin if Kiev did not, referred reporters to the Kremlin's official statement published earlier.
