Negotiations Tuesday between Russia and the United States led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio have concluded in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The bilateral talks lasted about 4.5 hours and, according to Russian leader Vladimir Putin's top aide Yuri Ushakov, the negotiations "went well."
"There was a very serious conversation on all the issues we wanted to raise," Ushakov told journalists after the meeting, according to Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti.
Russia has explained to the United States during the just-ended talks that the takeover of Ukraine by the North Atlantic Alliance would become a direct threat to Moscow, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this after negotiations with US administration officials.

ReplyDeleteSpeaking to reporters after the meeting, the first high-level contact between Moscow and Washington since the Ukraine invasion began, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the conversation was “very useful.”
“We did not just listen but heard each other, and I have reason to believe the American side has better understood our position,” Lavrov told reporters.
He said Russia told the United States it opposed any NATO member sending troops to Ukraine as part of a ceasefire, whether under a national flag or that of the European Union.
The United States and Russia agreed to normalize bilateral ties and begin working on ending the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the State Department said following Tuesday's meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Saudi Arabia.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the statement issued, the two sides agreed to "establish a consultation mechanism to address irritants to our bilateral relationship with the objective of taking steps necessary to normalize the operation of our respective diplomatic missions."
Washington and Moscow will "appoint respective high-level teams to begin working on a path to ending the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible in a way that is enduring, sustainable, and acceptable to all sides," the statement said.
The two sides agreed to "lay the groundwork for future cooperation on matters of mutual geopolitical interest and historic economic and investment opportunities which will emerge from a successful end to the conflict in Ukraine," the statement said.

ReplyDeleteAdemás, llegaron a un acuerdo sobre la cooperación en cuestiones geopolíticas de interés común. También coincidieron en la necesidad de crear un mecanismo de consultas para combatir "los puntos de fricción" en las relaciones entre Rusia y EEUU.
El medio destaca que Lavrov y Rubio acordaron cooperar en lo referente a las oportunidades económicas que pueden surgir tras la solución del conflicto ucraniano.

ReplyDeleteUS State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce has said that representatives of Moscow and Washington reached an agreement at talks in Riyadh to start working on the Ukrainian settlement, though "one phone call followed by one meeting is not sufficient" to fully resolve the conflict.

Moreover, Moscow and Washington reached a consensus on the issue of future cooperation in areas of geopolitical interest for both countries, as well as in the area of economy and investment.
