Since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, Germany has provided the Kiev government with aid worth approximately 44 billion euro, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit told reporters.
"Germany has spent almost 44 billion euro on assistance since the start of the conflict - not just on military assistance, but also on financial aid and accommodation of Ukrainian refugees who arrived here. 44 billion euro is a huge sum," he said, adding that it makes Germany Ukraine’s second largest donor after the United States.
"Both the chancellor and the government emphasized that it will continue," he added.
Germany is also the second largest supplier of weapons and military equipment to Ukraine after the United States. In accordance with the country’s 2025 budget draft, Berlin is to allocate around four billion euro for military aid to the Kiev government, half of what it donated in 2024. However, the budget is yet to be approved by the German parliament.
Russia has repeatedly said that funneling weapons into Ukraine will not reduce Moscow’s resolve or change the course of the special military operation.
