A Seoul court has issued an arrest warrant against South Korea's suspended president Yoon Suk Yeol over his attempt to impose martial law on 3 December.
The warrant comes after Yoon, who is facing several investigations on insurrection and treason charges, ignored three summonses to appear for questioning over the past two weeks.
The Corruption Investigation Office is looking into the circumstances of the announcement of martial law by the president who has been accused of insurrection following the move. A CIO team filed for a detention warrant on December 30, a day after Yoon Suk Yeol failed to report for questioning for a third straight time. South Korean law allows prosecuting a sitting president in cases of treason or insurrection. The president’s defense lawyer insisted the agency has no authority to investigate an insurrection case.

A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for impeached and suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol, investigators said, over his short-lived bid to impose martial law on the country.
ReplyDelete"The arrest warrant and search warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol, requested by the Joint Investigation Headquarters, were issued this morning," the Joint Investigation Headquarters said in a statement.
"No schedule has been set for future proceedings," it added.
