Qatar strongly condemns Israel’s recent actions on the Syrian border including the regime’s incursion, accusing it of exploiting Syria’s situation and violating its sovereignty, the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said on Tuesday.
“It is unacceptable for Israel to exploit the current situation in Syria and violate its sovereignty,” al-Ansari said.
Qatar “strongly condemned” the incursion along the Syrian border, warning that such actions would escalate regional tensions.
“This will lead the region into more problems,” al-Ansari stressed.
The Persian Gulf state urged the international community to uphold international law and take urgent action to address the situation.
“We have international conventions, we have sovereignty and the unity of the Syrian territories,” al-Ansari said.
“No one is allowed, under any circumstances, including the Israeli occupation, to seize opportunities to occupy … Syrian territories,” he added.
Al-Ansari emphasized that Israel’s actions amounted to clear “violations committed by Israel against the territories of Syria.”
Israeli warplanes have reportedly carried out hundreds of airstrikes across Syria, including on the capital, Damascus.
Meanwhile, the IDF confirmed it has troops operating in Syrian territory beyond the demilitarized buffer zone between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Israel must stop hostilities in Syria, United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said during a briefing.

The Israeli naval forces have destroyed at least five Syrian warships following their attack on the port of Latakia in Syria, Reuters news agency reported citing its sources in the British security firm Ambrey.
