One nuclear explosion in space can disrupt the entire satellite network, and six such explosions will completely destroy satellite systems. This was stated by NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
“If a rival detonates a nuclear bomb in space, all satellites will stop transmitting information,” he said, noting that six such explosions would completely “destroy that information for everyone on the planet.”
Nelson added that satellites are not immune to radiation caused by nuclear detonations.
