A crunch summit in Brussels broke up after a day of wrangling as the Hungarian authoritarian leader refused to greenlight funding to help prop up Ukraine's government over the next four years.
"Summary of the night shift: veto for the extra money to Ukraine," Mr Orban wrote on social media.
The European Council failed to approve the four-year program of budgetary aid to Ukraine worth 50 billion for the next four years, but hopes to reach consensus on the issue in January 2024, the Council’s President Charles Michel said.
ReplyDelete"We’ve just finished our meeting for tonight," he said. "We will revert to this matter early next year, and we will try to get unanimity."
He said that only one country, Hungary, opposed this program.
Besides, Sweden needs to secure its national parliament’s approval for Ukraine-related decisions in line with its domestic rules of procedure, Michel added.
В ходе саммита ЕС, который проходит в Брюсселе, Венгрия наложила вето на выделение помощи Украине в размере 50 миллиардов евро. Об этом заявил премьер-министр страны Виктор Орбан.
