The United Nations' high commissioner for human rights on Monday denounced the United States' travel ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries as illegal and mean-spirited.
Donald Trump's executive order withholds US visas from citizens of Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Syria for a period of at least 90 days.
The official Twitter account for the UN Human Rights agency quoted Zeid bin Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein as saying "discrimination on nationality alone is forbidden under human rights law."
He added: "the US ban is also mean-spirited, and wastes resources needed for proper counter-terrorism."
