At least six people were killed and eight wounded after gunmen opened fire at a mosque in Quebec City late Sunday in what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called "a terrorist attack on Muslims."
Two suspects in the shooting were arrested, police said. They did not rule out the possibility of a third suspect who had fled the scene.
A witness told Radio-Canada that he had seen two men wearing ski masks entering and yelling, one of whom had "a strong Quebecois accent."
The investigation was being handed over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, La Presse reported.
Trudeau said in a statement that Canada "condemn[s] this terrorist attack on Muslims in a center of worship and refuge.
"Diversity is our strength, and religious tolerance is a value that we, as Canadians, hold dear," he said.
