Seven Pakistani soldiers die in firing from Afghanistan

Pakistan army said on Tuesday that at least seven border troops were killed in firing from Afghan side of the border.

The army spokesman did not say as to who would have fired into Pakistani territory.

Cross-border shelling occasionally takes place between Pakistan and Afghanistan which have nearly 2,500 kilometers of mostly porous border.

Security officials sometime blame Pakistani militants who operate from Afghan border regions for attacks on border posts. They say most of the Pakistani Taliban have fled to Afghanistan as a result of major military operations.

The military said that heavy fire from across Pak-Afghan border occurred early morning on Tuesday on a Frontier Corps (FC) post northeast of Angoor Adda area in South Waziristan.

"Resultantly 7 FC soldiers embraced 'Shahdat' (martyrdom)," a statement from the army's Inter-Services Public Relations said.

The latest incident has taken place at a time when relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan are tense following the Taliban attacks in Afghanistan.
