Top China and U.S. naval commanders held video talks on Thursday two days after a U.S. destroyer patrolled in South China Sea, with the Chinese side expressing "deep concern."
Admiral Wu Shengli of the People's Liberation Army's Navy said, "Such dangerous and provocative acts have threatened China's sovereignty and security and harmed regional peace and stability," during talks with his U.S. counterpart, Admiral John Richardson.

The Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration said on Thursday that it has rejected China's claim that the row was beyond the tribunal's remit.
The case taken by the Philippines to the Permanent Court of Arbitration revolves around underlying rights and entitlements and "the status of certain maritime features" in the South China Sea, the court said.
The court ruled that the case reflects "disputes between the two states concerning the interpretation or application" of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Manila has insisted the Convention, which the Philippines and China have both ratified, should be used to resolve the territorial row over isolated reefs and islets, which has triggered growing international alarm.
But China, which insists it has sovereign rights to nearly all of the South China Sea - a strategic waterway through which about a third of all the world's traded oil passes - has refused to participate in the proceedings...

ReplyDeleteLe navire lance-missiles américain USS Lassen s’est approché, mardi 27 octobre, à moins de 12 milles nautiques d’au moins une des îles artificielles que Pékin construit en mer de Chine méridionale, dans l’archipel des Spratleys.
Les actions provocatrices des Etats-Unis peuvent provoquer des incidents dangereux, stipule le message publié le 30 octobre sur le site du ministère chinois de la Défense.
"En dépit de maintes négociations et des protestations fermes du gouvernement chinois, la partie américaine a envoyé un navire lance-missile USS Lassen dans la région des îles chinoises Nansha (nom chinois des Spratleys, ndlr). Ces actions de Washington ont mis en danger la souveraineté et la sécurité de la Chine, en mettant en question la paix et la stabilité dans la région. Elles sont pour le moins dangereuses et provocatrices", a annoncé l'amiral Wu Shengli, commandant en chef de la marine chinoise, lors d'une vidéoconférence avec son homologue américain John Richardson.

China does not recognize Hague’s arbitration court jurisdiction in South China Sea...
ReplyDeleteChina has refused to take part in hearings in the The Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration on territorial disputes in the South China Sea initiated by the Philippines and said it does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Liu Zhenmin said on Friday.
"Talking about the Philippines’ decision to file claims to the arbitration court in the Hague, China’s position has remained very clear over the last two-three years, starting from 2013. China will not participate in the hearings and does not recognize [the court’s jurisdiction in the case]," he said.
On October 29 Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague decided to expand its jurisdiction to the South China Sea to consider the case of a territorial dispute between the Philippines and China.
