The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said in a statement that it held a celebration with local drone maker UCON System to mark the first delivery of unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by the company.
The UAV, named Remoeye-002B, will be deployed to frontline army units and Marine Corps troops along the land and sea borders from this year to 2017.
The mini-drone, which measures 1.8 meters wide and 1.4 meters long and weighs 3.4 kilograms, can conduct the surveillance mission for more than an hour at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
It can shoot images within a radius of 10 kilometers day and night, and the images can be transmitted on a real-time basis.
The drone had been developed with an indigenous technology for three years from 2012, the arms procurement agency said, noting that there was a high possibility for the drone to be exported due to great capability.
