The US State Department on Friday said it was "gravely" concerned about
the release on bail in Pakistan of a man accused of plotting a 2008
militant assault in Mumbai that killed 166 people.
A Pakistani court has freed Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, his lawyer said earlier on Friday.
State spokesman Jeff Rathke said US officials were considering what steps to take next.

ReplyDeleteIndia has formally protested to Pakistan over its decision to release on bail the suspected mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
India's ambassador in Islamabad met Pakistan's foreign secretary to "register our strong concerns" at the release of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, a government official in Delhi said.

"We gave evidence against Lakhvi to Pakistan. Pakistan didn't present it to the court and that is why Lakhvi had been released," MoS for home affairs Kiren Rijiju said.
"Pakistan should use all the evidence given by India against Lakhvi," Rijiju added.
