Ukrainian crisis creates problems in Greece-Russia relations (Dimitris Kourkoulas, Deputy FM)

Russia is a strategic partner of the European Union and Greece, Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitris Kourkoulas said on Monday in an interview to the local radio station Athina 9.84.

However, the official says, the Ukrainian crisis is creating many problems in relations between Athens and Moscow.

 According to him, the developments in Ukraine are “not only a European issue, but an international problem as well.” 

“As this crisis is evolving in our vicinity, Europe is directly involved in it and has major concerns, because the main goal of European integration is the strengthening of peace and co-operation across the European continent,” Kourkoulas said.

“We [Greece] are working to find as soon as possible a diplomatic political solution that would be acceptable for all the sides.

 Because this crisis is certainly creating many problems in our relations with the Russian Federation, which is a strategic partner for the European Union and Greece,” the official said.
