Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al- Moallem on Sunday discussed with the
visiting UN special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, the plan of
freezing the fighting in Syria's Aleppo province, the state news agency
reported.
The two discussed Mistura's plan to the UN Security Council earlier this month about the local freeze of fighting in Aleppo province so that the growing threat posed by the Islamic State (IS) militant group may be fully confronted.
The discussions also covered the latest international consensus on battling the IS in Syria, according to SANA, which said that both parties expressed "relief" about the discussions' results, without actually revealing them.
Additionally, it also provides visible proof that the on-the- ground narrative can be shifted from a military one to a political one.
The UN special envoy is also expected to meet with President Bashar al-Assad and local opposition figures.
The nearly four-year conflict in Syria has killed over 190,000 people and displaced millions.
