Kiev’s latest statements on seeking to join the North Atlantic Alliance and refusal to pay pensions to citizens of eastern Ukraine, arouse concerns, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told the France Inter radio station on Tuesday.
“In recent days, a number of statements from the Ukrainian side have been heard which seem to be very concerning,” Fabius said. “When Ukrainians say they will not pay pensions to people in the country’s east or when the new government says that its goal is Ukraine’s accession to NATO, this evidently creates great problems,” he said.
The French top diplomat said Paris is committed to the Minsk agreements reached in September which give a clear roadmap towards returning to peace. Fabius said he had discussed this issue at the meeting in Vienna with his counterparts from Russia, the United States and Germany.
On November 21, the majority coalition in Ukraine’s parliament announced it planned to cancel the country’s non-bloc status, adopt a course towards NATO’s membership and raise military spending to 3% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2015......................http://en.itar-tass.com/world/76355925/11/14

Kiev’s drive for joining NATO will lead to further aggravation of the situation in Ukraine and it will not improve the Ukrainian people’s life, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Tuesday....
ReplyDelete“I’m sure that what the Ukrainian leadership announced will lead to further aggravation of the situation in Ukraine. This will not ensure security in Ukraine and this will not improve the Ukrainian people’s life,” he said.
Ryabkov was commenting on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s statement on conducting a referendum on the country's accession to NATO.
“This is the result of illusions, the Ukrainian leaders and many people in the West live in, the illusions that the geopolitical Western game is all of this and people’s life is nothing,” Ryabkov said.
“I regret that these leaders are enthralled by such illusions,” he said.
