European Council President Herman Van Rompuy on Friday congratulated
Boyko Borissov on his election as the prime minister of Bulgaria.
Van Rompuy said he was confident that Borissov's continued leadership would help steer Bulgaria through the challenges ahead and that he would equally continue his country's contribution to the European Union.
Bulgaria's National Assembly on Friday approved a coalition government led by GERB party chairman Borissov, almost five weeks after the country's urgent parliamentary elections.
Borissov, who was prime minister from 2009 to 2013, gathered the support of 136 legislators from his party, the Reformers Bloc, Patriotic Front and ABV coalition, in the 240-member parliament.
