“I think it is a normal, civilized way to involve in a dialogue lawyers, experts from various countries,” the Izvestia newspaper cites head of the Association Sergei Stepashin. “It is in no way a politicized or a political decision, it a purely legal decision. It is an absolutely normal path.”
Earlier, Andrei Klishas, the chairman of the Federation Council committee on the constitutional law, approached the Russian Association of Lawyers with an initiative to ask the legal community of the United States and Europe to give a legal assessment of the developments in Ukraine.
“It is absolutely obvious that Ukraine is in a stalemate situation,” Stepashin said. “The old constitution, under which [Viktor] Yanukovich was elected president, was practically ignored. But the return to the 2004 constitution, which advisers from the West insisted on, had not come into force. So, the task now is to get back to the constitutional framework, to conduct democratic elections and subsequently form all branched of power: both executive, representative and presidential. There is no other way. “
