The US State Department’s report claiming that the facts cited by President Vladimir Putin during his news conference on Ukraine on March 4 are wrong is striking not so much by its primitive distortion of reality as by its cynicism and uncovered double standards, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, March 6.
“The State Department is trying to play with the shamelessly one-sided interpretation of events as if there were no numerous evidence of outrageous acts committed by radical nationalists, including reprisals, in front of cameras, against the undesirable or provocative killings by snipers, which has been confirmed, among others, by ‘independent sources.’
Washington cannot admit, of course, that they themselves were feeding the “Maidan” [protests] and encouraging the overthrow of the legitimate government by force, thus paving the way to those who are posing as the legitimate authorities in Kiev now,” the ministry said.
“We will not relegate ourselves to polemics with petty propaganda. We will only say that once again we have to deal with unacceptable arrogance and claims of ultimate truth. The U.S. has no and cannot have moral right to lecture others on how to comply with international rules and respect the sovereignty of other countries. What about the bombings of former Yugoslavia and the invasion of Iraq on falsified pretexts?” the statement said.
“If we turn to more distant historical events, we can find many examples of American military interventions far away from the national borders in the absence of real threat to the security of the United States. The war in Vietnam claimed the lives of two million peaceful citizens, let alone the completely devastated country and the contaminated environment.
Under the pretext of protecting their citizens, who had simply happened to be in conflict zones, the U.S. invaded Lebanon in 1958 and the Dominican Republic in 1965, attacked tiny Grenada in 1983, bombed Libya in 1986, and three years later occupied Panama. Nevertheless, they dare accuse Russia of ‘armed aggression’, when it steps in to defend its compatriots who make up the majority of Crimea’s population in order to prevent ultranationalist forces from organizing yet another Maidan bloodbath,” the ministry said.
- “Obviously, Washington is unable to adequately perceive events using standards other than the American ones. They are unable to overcome themselves and put up with the fact that they cannot dictate their will and act in their customary role of ‘infallible judge’ who has the final say every time and everywhere. Their nerves are giving in, but this is not the reason to lay their own fault at somebody else’s door,” the statement said.

Размещенная на сайте Госдепартамента справка с «опровержением» фактов, приведенных Президентом России В.В.Путиным в ходе пресс-конференции 4 марта о ситуации на Украине, поражает не столько примитивным искажением реальности, сколько цинизмом и неприкрытыми «двойными стандартами».
Госдепартамент пытается сыграть на бессовестно однобокой трактовке событий, будто и не было многочисленных свидетельств бесчинств, чинимых радикал-националистами, включая расправы под телекамеры над неугодными или провокационные убийства снайперами, что подтверждается, в частности, из «независимых источников». В Вашингтоне, конечно, не могут признать, что сами подпитывали «майдан», поощряли свержение законной власти насильственным путем, расчищая путь тем, кто сейчас выдает себя за легитимную власть в Киеве.
Не будем опускаться до полемики с низкопробной пропагандой. Скажем лишь: в очередной раз мы имеем дело с неприемлемым высокомерием и претензиями на истину в последней инстанции. У США нет и не может быть морального права на нравоучения по поводу соблюдения международных норм и уважения суверенитета других стран. Как быть с бомбардировками бывшей Югославии или вторжением в Ирак по сфальсифицированному поводу?
Если обратиться к более отдаленной истории, можно найти немало примеров американских военных интервенций далеко за пределами национальных границ и в отсутствие реальной угрозы безопасности самих США. Вьетнамская война унесла жизни двух миллионов мирных жителей, не говоря уже о полностью разрушенной стране и отравленной окружающей среде. Под предлогом защиты своих граждан, всего лишь оказавшихся в зонах конфликтов, США вторгались в Ливан в 1958 г., а в 1965 г. - в Доминиканскую Республику, атаковали крошечную Гренаду в 1983 г., бомбили Ливию в 1986 г., а три года спустя оккупировали Панаму. И, тем не менее, Россию смеют упрекать в «вооруженной агрессии», когда она вступается за своих соотечественников, составляющих большинство населения Крыма, чтобы не дать ультранационалистическим силам устроить еще один кровавый «майдан».
- Очевидно, что в Вашингтоне по-прежнему не в состоянии адекватно воспринимать развитие событий не по американским лекалам. Не могут преодолеть себя, смириться с тем, что не получается всегда и везде диктовать свою волю и выступать в привычной еще недавно роли «непогрешимого судьи», за которым - последнее слово. Сдают нервы, но это не основание валить с больной головы на здоровую.
