The British Broadcasting Corporation – BBC – said the radical association The Right Sector was the organizer of the most vehement protest rallies in Ukraine. On Saturday, March 1st, it posted a video report from the center of Kiev, where the streets are being patrolled by the militants in the military uniform with the SS symbols, on its website.
According to the BBC correspondent, thousands of students
and workers took to the streets in the Ukrainian capital Kiev with a
demand for reforms. However militants of the ultra-right organization,
The Right Sector, who wear clothes with Nazi symbols without any fear
today and like to pose with the arms in their hands near the government
buildings, were spotted among the ordinary people.
The
BBC report has managed to interview one of the activists who said that
the he liked the ideology of national-socialism but that it did not
serve as a basis for the ideology of The Right Sector.
“It’s
my ideology,” the extremist said. “Let all those who like Russia go to
Russia . And Ukraine is only for the Ukrainians,” he added.
The
day before the leader of “The Right Sector” Dmitry Yarosh announced
general mobilization in view of the decision of the Russian Federation
Council to deploy troops in Ukraine. On the same day it also became
known that he had asked a Chechen field commander, Doku Umarov, to carry
out terrorist attacks in Russia. Besides, the militants, calling
themselves the “freedom fighters” in the social networks urged the
peoples, enslaved by Moscow to fight against the “chekist regime of

Our speakers today are [name withheld] will be referred to as Senior Administration Official Number One from this point forward. With that, we will go ahead and start with brief remarks from our speakers and then we’ll turn it over to you to take a few questions.
SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL ONE: Sure, thanks. I’ll just give a very quick overview of what the President’s been doing. Yesterday, you know he was updated by his national security team and spoke separately with President Putin of Russia, Prime Minister Harper of Canada, and President Hollande of France. Today, the President has spoken with Chancellor Merkel of Germany. He’ll be – he is either speaking now or will be speaking to Prime Minister Cameron of the United Kingdom and President Komorowski of Poland.
The President’s point in all of his calls, frankly, has been to underscore the complete illegitimacy of Russia’s intervention in Crimea, in Ukraine, and to underscore the support of the United States for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty. We can talk through what steps we’re taking on the diplomatic side to make clear that there will be political and economic costs for Russia in terms of its isolation from the international community, as well as the affirmative steps we’re taking to signal our strong support for the people and government of Ukraine, including taking steps towards providing robust economic and technical assistance as well as reassuring them through their participation and consultations in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
With that, I’ll hand it over to my colleague.

ReplyDelete"We, the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States and the President of the European Council and President of the European Commission, join together today to condemn the Russian Federation’s clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, in contravention of Russia’s obligations under the UN Charter and its 1997 basing agreement with Ukraine. We call on Russia to address any ongoing security or human rights concerns that it has with Ukraine through direct negotiations, and/or via international observation or mediation under the auspices of the UN or the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. We stand ready to assist with these efforts.
We also call on all parties concerned to behave with the greatest extent of self-restraint and responsibility, and to decrease the tensions.
We note that Russia’s actions in Ukraine also contravene the principles and values on which the G-7 and the G-8 operate. As such, we have decided for the time being to suspend our participation in activities associated with the preparation of the scheduled G-8 Summit in Sochi in June, until the environment comes back where the G-8 is able to have meaningful discussion.
We are united in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its right to choose its own future. We commit ourselves to support Ukraine in its efforts to restore unity, stability, and political and economic health to the country. To that end, we will support Ukraine’s work with the International Monetary Fund to negotiate a new program and to implement needed reforms. IMF support will be critical in unlocking additional assistance from the World Bank, other international financial institutions, the EU, and bilateral sources."

Amid ongoing crisis, Ban dispatches deputy UN chief Jan Eliasson to Ukraine ...
ReplyDelete2 March 2014 – The United Nations announced on Sunday that Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson is heading to Ukraine amid the ongoing crisis in the country to get an understanding of the situation on the ground.
“Following the Security Council's consultations and given the developments on the ground in Ukraine, the Secretary-General is dispatching Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson to the country this evening,” a spokesperson for UN chief Ban Ki-moon said in a statement .
“While in Ukraine, the Deputy Secretary-General will be personally apprised of the facts on the ground and will subsequently brief the Secretary-General on the next steps the United Nations could take to support the de-escalation of the situation,” the spokesperson added.
Ukraine has been witnessing violent unrest for several months and last week saw the removal by Parliament of President Viktor Yanukovych.
