"Selon nos informations et j'ai parlé au ministre des Affaires étrangères il y a une heure et demie, le président Ianoukovitch est allé à Kharkiv dans l'Est pour une sorte de réunion qui se tient là-bas", a dit ce responsable rappelant que cette région de l'Ukraine était le fief politique du chef de l'État. Le diplomate américain était interrogé à propos de rumeurs de "fuite" du président ukrainien de Kiev, après avoir scellé un accord avec l'opposition.
"Il
est arrivé là-bas. Comme vous le savez, ce n'est pas inhabituel, après
avoir pris une importante décision politique, qu'il visite l'Est, où il a
sa base", a expliqué ce haut responsable du département d'État
américain.
Il n'a en revanche pas confirmé "les informations selon
lesquelles le ministre de l'Intérieur Zakharchenko avait fui au
Bélarus".
"Je ne suis pas en mesure de vérifier", a-t-il conclu. La
semaine à Kiev a été sanglante après des affrontements qui ont fait
depuis mardi 80 morts et des dizaines de blessés.
Un accord pour mettre
fin à ces violences a été conclu vendredi entre le président ukrainien
Viktor Ianoukovitch et les dirigeants de l'opposition. La crise en
Ukraine s'est déclenchée en novembre après la suspension par Kiev des
négociations sur un accord d'association avec l'Union européenne, au
profit d'une relance des relations économiques avec Moscou. (Belga)

Obama, Putin Agree on Importance of Supporting Ukraine Agreement ....
ReplyDeleteWHITE HOUSE — U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone on Friday about the agreement reached in Ukraine to end violence there. The White House welcomed the agreement, ratified by Ukraine's parliament, aimed at ending months of upheaval.
A White House statement said the president initiated the call to Putin to discuss Ukraine and a range of other global issues.
On Ukraine, they exchanged views on the need to quickly implement the political agreement reached in Kyiv, the importance of stabilizing the economic situation and undertaking necessary reforms, and the need for all sides to refrain from further violence.
The statement said they also spoke about the situation in Syria, including the importance of efforts to advance a political solution, along with concerns over the humanitarian crisis and the necessity of a strong United Nations Security Council resolution on the issue.
